<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">I am still alive and thought I'd write a quick post to see if anyone was out there and would see this post after all this time. I am in the process of making up my mind about whether to update this blog or move to my own website or keep both :) If you are out there and you are reading this, say hello!
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">I have some new patterns to share in the near future and may even in fact finally write up part 2 of the Victoria Frills Scarf Tutorial. Let me know what you think.

I'm doing my best to get the flower tutorials finished (the ones that go on the Victoria Frills Scarf). I've been so overwhelmed with house renovations, a constant stream of visitors and my mum being unwell = various trips up to Lincolnshire that I just haven't had time to keep up with my blog.

I should however get some new things on here this month and it should improve from there.

As mentioned above though if you want a more dynamic and real-time CleverCheshireCats then visit me at the link above. I know several of you have already and it allows me to see things like your versions of the Victoria Frills Scarf - which is great fun I wish blogger had a bit more of an interactive section where we could chat and save bits etc although I haven't got to grips with all the new bits they've added yet...

Look forward to seeing you soon.

They are quite something - what a talented lady she is!

I'd also like to thank everyone for all the lovely comments over the past couple of posts and if I haven't got back to you this time it's just that I've been sooo busy. If you have an urgent question, just email and I'll get back to you :)

I will be back next week with the flower tutorial for adding to the victoria frills scarf :)

This Victoria Frills Spring Scarf Tutorial will be in 2 parts. Part one is for the actual scarf. Pretty simple instructions really.

Part two will be for the flowers. Of course you can put whichever flowers you like on your scarf but I will do a tutorial for a few of mine.

Info: I used a type of yarn that is mainly cotton and has a kind of thick and thin effect that varies between 4ply and double knit (you don't have to use the same). I've only used the basic half treble stitch for the body of the scarf but it looks lacy because I used a bigger hook than usual (4.50mm or a 5mm would do it).

Step 1:

crochet a foundation chain (this should be roughly the length of scarf that you want). Be careful not to make the foundation chains too tight or your scarf will end up a bit of a banana shape!

The scarf can be as long as you like. I usually start the chain and then wrap it round my neck the way I would normally wear a scarf so I can see where the scarf will end when it's completed. The scarf in the picture was made with XXX chains and it's quite long. I used a 4.50mm hook with cotton yarn that sort of goes thick and then thin. (not sure if there is a name for this type of yarn) as I wanted the main scarf bit to be a little lacy and drape a little too.

Step 2:

Once you have decided how long you want your scarf to be, begin crocheting into the foundation chain using half trebles. Half treble = (insert yarn into work, wrap yarn over, pull through work (three loops on hook) pull through all three loops).

Continue on until the scarf is the width that you would like it to be - simple really.

Step 3:

Now that your scarf is the required width and length you need to crochet around the whole scarf for one row in double crochet. Make sure you have 2 double crochets at each corner if you want a squarish scarf. If you want one with rounded edges then you can ignore this.

This will provide the basis for the frills which are coming next :)

Step 4:

Now for the frills! First change yarn into the one you are using for the contrasting frills. Into each double crochet make 4 or 5 treble stitches. I like the random frills (not too uniform) so I don't do the same number of stitches into each double crochet and sometimes I just put 3 for a few stitches. Continue like this until you have gone all the way round the scarf.

Fasten off.

Well done! You now have the basis for your very own Victoria Frills Scarf.

Cindy I hope you have a smile on your face now :)

A quick tutorial for some flowers will form part two - up next.
Hangers - which colours?
I've made a few of these hangers and found it to be a very enjoyable project indeed. It is quick and the results are rather fabulous if I do say so myself. I have only stopped at 6 because I have run out of the wooden hangers. They are not that easy to find at a decent price, well I can't find any anyway. If you have any ideas please let me know.
The stripey ones look great on their own although I am wondering if I should add a little something to cover up the join. With the plain ones I have added a rose which covers up the join and looks quite nice but I'm not sure what colours the roses should be. I have made a few cream ones, a blue one and a pink one (I have not attached them properly yet) but wondered which other colours would go nicely. Not sure why my brain seems to have got stuck on this one but I'd appreciate your thoughts. Sorry the pics are a bit yellow but I took them at night.

Please pop on over and take a look at their lovely blogs above, they are all well worth a peek as there are some wonderful things on all of them - as if you didn't know already ;)

You can see the 7 things about me from my previous post here as I am not interesting enough to be able to think of another 7 :)

I'm not passing on any awards again at the moment as I only did just that very recently plus I seem to be coming down with another cold (thank you wonderful children of mine) so don't really feel like any extra work at the moment and am already behind with my blogging schedule. March Monthly Make will be coming shortly in April and so will will the Victoria Frills Scarf Tutorial (almost done) along with 3, yes 3 different types of give away - woohoo!

I'd like to mention that the lovely Maaike from one of my favourite blogs Crejjion is having give away. It is open untill the 3rd April and she is giving away some lovely fabric as well as a few other lovelies too. I've already entered and you only have a couple of days left to enter so better be quick!

I was sent an email the other day by Hilde from ildicolor regarding a pin cushion swap. It looks lots of fun and you must leave a comment on the post (link above or click on pic) before April 3rd if you would like to take part.

A few weeks back I had a lovely email from Rhonda about kitty/craft website for people that love to show off their kitties with their crafts. The link is here and I will be posting my own pictures very soon. I'd love to see yours as I know many of you love kitties too!

I have finally decided to launch a shop page on the 9th May this year! Yep I'm going for it - why not :) I hope to add lots of different bits and hopefully not just crochet by the summer as I've had a call from the sewing machine repair man and my machine is fixed - yay!

In lieu of getting the shop ready I have started a facebook page where I will be having updates of new shop products and exclusive giveaways too! I am currently having a quick giveaway - two prizes (something cute and something not so cute, you'll have to wait and see but I think there will be at least one cute bunny)

To enter the giveaway just go to

http://www.facebook.com/Clevercheshirecats and 'like' my page

I'll be announcing the winners in about a week so you have a few days left to enter.

The Pattern/Tutorial will follow in a few days and will not only be my first written down pattern after 25 years of crocheting but also the first in a series of 'crochet patterns for people that don't like patterns' This aims to be a series where you don't have to be exact for most of the pattern so it doesn't matter if you aren't great at counting your stitches etc.

Now a progress update on my Japanese Flowers. I am still loving making these.

I couldn't photograph them all this time as I now have about 80 flowers.

I can't wait until I have 110 as I know then I should be half way through. I would have completed more but I ran out of yarn and have also had to put some work in on a baby ripple blanket that I am making for my brother and his other half as their baby is expected at the beginning of May and I don't want to get caught out :)

Also I had a go at making some crochet covered clothes hangers as I thought they would be a good thing to take along to the craft fair that I have signed myself up for in June this year (my first one!)

Wow - they were so quick and easy to make and look really really good when finished. You can see my Cath Kidstonesque one here and I will have more to show you soon once I have made a few flowers to add to ones I've done already.

Quincy - one of my kitties had to check my crochet work to see if it was up to standard.
felt heart bunting with a crochet edge!

24 hearts all together so enough to make two sets of bunting. I'm really pleased with the results as it looks so bright and cheery strung up across the window. I haven't yet tied in some of the tails but I'll get to that in a day or two.

I'm thinking of making some more in the shape of birds and then also some circles with different pictures on them. Tell me what you think. Don't forget to visit Felt Fairy's Monthly Make Flickr group and Felt Fairy herself.

I have been toying with the idea of starting an etsy shop so maybe these bunting strips could go in there along with some of the pincushions?

On another subject I was visiting the lovely blog of Creative Carmelina where I saw a very pretty Royal Albert teacup she had found. I remembered that just a couple of weeks ago I found a piece of Royal Albert also but not a teacup...a sort of tray? It's very pretty as you can see but I'm not sure what it's for or if it is just a tray :)

Carmelina also informed me that my followers gadget on my blog was not working so if you have tried to follow my blog in the last few days or weeks then I apologise but it is working now so go ahead and follow me!
I am also progressing slowly with the Spring Scarf Tutorial but I have to admit that I have been sidetracked by those Japanese Flowers. Our new blog The Flower Bed has had a flying start and over 1/3 of the available contributor vacancies has already gone so if you want to be able to contribute to this wonderful flowery blog you'd better hurry up :)Rachael @ CleverCheshireCatshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03991077439627595666noreply@blogger.com29tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1092841712189851602.post-3290765698087313422011-02-23T16:05:00.003+00:002011-03-02T13:50:52.904+00:00The Flower Bed Japanese Style!
I can't tell you how much I have been enjoying crocheting those pretty flowers.

After reading Lucy's (attic24) post over over on ravelry and seeing Suz wonderful version I really wanted to have a go. A day or so later, the lovely Hazel from quietly stitching got me more intrigued about this flowery motif as their bigger size is quite appealing to me at the moment. I made mine with a more solid centre as I liked the look of it more.

They are completed so quickly and look so pretty. The only thing with mine is that the colours in this yarn are quite limited so not that many brights are available to me. I have ordered some turquoise though as nothing looks right to me without a bit of turquoise or aqua :) The turquoise motif below is made in cotton yarn ( I had to make one in this colour, I couldn't resist) the rest are in pure wool.

I've made several more since taking these pictures earlier today and hope that I can make enough to make a kingsize (uk) bed throw for when my bedroom is decorated later this year. The only problem is that once you start making these flowers, you become addicted. Just one more I keep telling myself. I'm supposed to be completing my flowery spring scarf tutorial, making squares for Sarah London's appeal ( I have done a few but want to make at least 20) and still finishing off more cushions and other wips.

I found these really cute bits and pieces whilst shopping this week. They have a whole range in Wilco and everything is really cute. The little drawers are perfect for all those craft bits and bobs.
I was also very lucky winning the great give away over at manda's challenges - look what I got! What a lovely prize. I am going to use some of the yarn towards some granny squares for the Sarah London - Crochet a Rainbow Appeal.
It doesn't stop there as just when I thought about how lucky I had been, I had a message from Loo over at jumbles and pompoms who told me I'd just won a prize on her give away too - wow! I couldn't believe it. The books are lovely and there were even a few chocolate coins in there too (they lasted all of 5 seconds after I opened the parcel hehe)
Please do pop on over to their blogs and have a look

On another subject, I did hope to have some sewing to show you, in particular the fabric cushion backs for crochet cushions as I had figured out how I wanted to do it. The problem is that my sewing machine had other ideas and after several hours of trying to sort out the tension, the motor locked - arrgh! Anyway it's off to the menders next week and I will get that tutorial done as soon as I can.

I've started a new flowery scarf tutorial instead and hope to get that on here one day next week so keep an eye out for that as I'm already half way through.

Also there is just today and tomorrow left to enter my give away if you like to win those goodies.

Finally just for the cute factor, here are a few pictures of my kittens. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Rachael Xx
A few weeks ago I decided to participate in Felt Fairy's Monthly Make 2011. The idea is to make something every month. It doesn't matter what it is so it can be sewn, crocheted or whatever you like. You then have to post your make to your blog and also to the Flickr group that has been created to showcase all the Monthly Makes.

You can see the original post here at Felt Fairy's Blog

For January I decided to make a baby blanket from some granny squares. I completed the squares back in 2010 but never got round to sewing them together. Since I was a little late deciding what to make and wanted something quick it seemed a good idea to complete a work in progress which is also in keeping with my promise to myself to complete all outstanding wip's by the end of February.

I haven't been very adventurous with my blanket edgings recently but adapted the usual shell pattern to make a slightly more pointy petal type edge.
Lastly have a sneeky preview of what I'm planning for February and will be the only 'new' thing that I am allowing myself to make until my self imposed rule of - 'finish all wip's' is over.
I mentioned in my previous post that I would create a fresh post to answer some of the questions that you wanted answers for and so here it is.

First, however, I would like to ask all of you a couple questions as I could do with some good advice from fellow crafters.

I've been seriously addicted to making those little or not so little pin cushions you can see in the picture above. I was considering putting them on etsy or having a page where I could sell them. In the beginning I would like all of the money (if I take the option to sell and if anyone is interested) to go to a school for disabled children that I know of. What do you think? Would anyone be interested in them?

Secondly I wonder what you think about the best way to reply to comments on my blog. I've been lucky enough to have some lovely comments on my last few posts and I want to reply to everyone BUT do I reply here on my blog? Do I reply here on my blog to each comment? Do I go over to your blog and comment there because really when I see the lovely things on your blog I want to talk about what you have done and not my last post (most of the time). Do I send an email if you have one? I love to comment on your posts when there is a new one and not only if you've left a comment for me. So what do you think is the best thing to do as blogger has no reply function?

I'd really appreciate your comments on both of my questions.

Now for the Answers to your Questions

Which yarn did I use for my cushions? I used acrylic for the ones in the pictures above. I have done others in cotton and pure wool and I will post some pictures of these in the near future. I prefer wool and cotton yarn above acrylic if I can get it as the stitches come out more defined and the overall look is better.

do you crochet the front to the back or sew them together, and how do you do the bits for the buttons, I can't figure it out? I crochet them together but leave an opening for the cushion insert. sometimes I crochet the right sides together but have found that it looks nice if you crochet with the wrong sides together. For the buttons I do a row of something like 8 double crochet then 2 chain, miss out a stitch and then 8 double crochet, 2 chain miss a stitch and so on. (this is done on the side that is opposite where the buttons will be sewn and so the chain parts form the loops for the buttons to go through) If I get more requests I can do a tutorial.

I have a lot of crocheted fronts but I'm not at all good with a sewingmachine and have no idea of how to put a fabric back on a crocheted front which is exactly what I'd want to do. I read you have that very same 'problem' ;) I keep hoping someone will put an very step by step tutorial of that on their blog... no luck so far, just finished masterpieces without tutorials. Maybe I'd better just crochet backs for the fronts...I have thought a lot about this and I also want to be able to do some cushions with fabric backs. It would be nice partly so you can have a different look and partly because sometimes you want to be much quicker in finishing your cushion and the main front of the cushion is the showcase and you don't need a crochet back. Sometimes of course only a crochet back would do. Sooo I have decided after asking this same question of other people myself many times even before I had a blog and not finding a tutorial anywhere that I WILL find out how to do it properly and then post a step-by-step tutorial. I have a pretty good idea now anyway after attending my sewing class and watching a few sewing videos on youtube ( I will conquer this sewing thing) so watch this space, it may take me a few weeks but I will get there.

I'd definitely buy something from you at a craft fair. Do you have one in mind? See my questions above. I would consider it if it seems like a good idea. I have to crochet and really can't stop, I am running out of places to store all my bits and bobs and have so many more ideas I haven't even tried yet. There is a craft fair local to me but they won't be back until Spring so we will see how it goes and if I get enough favourable answers then I'll let you know :)

I've been asked if I will be doing any tutorials. Yes I have two that I want to do for you in February and will be preparing the first one in a week or so.

I would really love to hear what you think about any of the above, favourable or not favourable, I will appreciate every comment

Update: Thank you all so much for your comments. They were all very helpful and I'm so lucky to have you out there.
Finally some more crochet to show you!

I have so many cushion wip's it's crazy. I am very addicted to making cushions as they are quick to make and look lovely when finished so it's very satisfying. The problem is that I hate sewing or rather I'm scared of sewing so once a cushion is done is takes a while before the buttons are sewn on.

This year I have made a promise to myself that since I have so many I must get them all finished by the end of February or else! When they are all done I'll have to attend a craft fair or something as they won't all fit into my house and I've made many for presents already and I still have loads of partially completed ones left in my basket.
I do have to get to grips with this camera still though and I think I'll take a digital photography course once I've got the hang of the sewing basics as I'm making so many mistakes even on full auto mode.

I'm hoping to have a go at making some cushions with fabric backs next time. It takes so long to crochet a back for them and I fancy something different anyway. Perhaps I will have the courage after a few sewing classes.

As you can see I have gone a little overboard with the pin cushion production too - but they look cute don't they? Another set of contenders for a craft fair perhaps?

You can definitely expect a cushion frenzy over here during the next few weeks as I get to work fulfilling my promise to myself. Oh and the granny stripe in the background is my second stripe blanket but cot size this time so quite a bit smaller than the last one.

Gosh...if I finish all these cushions...I'll have to think of something to do next.....

Don't forget if you haven't entered my give away, there is still time as I won't be announcing the winner until February 14th.

I have found many many wonderful blogs out there since I started reading them just about a year or so ago. Often I come across something I love and the pictures are wonderful but I can't read what the blogger is talking about as I don't speak their language.

A few months back I found a lovely dutch blog and was just about to try and guess what was written from some words that I may recognise when everything suddenly became clear before my eyes and I could read and understand every word - Google Translator of course.

It was brilliant as I didn't have to copy and paste the page into the translator myself as the lovely blogger had installed a widget that automatically changes the language into the readers own selected language. I knew I had to try this for myself and it was surprisingly easy so I thought I would share this with you as it is very handy since online we are a global community that speak many different languages. It was also a lot easier than trawling around the crowded shops in the snow.

I meant to show you my handmade Christmas pressies much earlier but somehow I ran out of time and didn't even manage to take any pictures of any of the things I made before I had to wrap them up and give them out. I had to ask my brother to pictures of the little bag I made for his girlfriend. I was quite pleased with it. He took the pictures with his camera phone so they are not amazing but I'm grateful that he found the time to do it for me.

You might need a cup of tea and a biscuit first as I have quite a long story to tell. I'm going to have a cuppa myself. I prefer white tea these days and have become quite addicted to this Qi Organic White Tea with orange, cloves, cinnamon and ginger. It's really warming during these rather nippy winter months.

Now that you've made your tea (or coffee, maybe juice or even a glass of wine) I can start. It's a happy and sad tale at the same time but more happy than sad I think and there's even some crochet in there too!

I've known my mum was adopted since I was a little girl. As I got older she I wanted to know about why she was adopted, what happened to her real parents and if she wanted to find them. She told me that she had been adopted as a baby and that her adoptive mother had told her that her real mother did not want her. She was told that her father was a Staff Sergeant in the American Army and that her mother had been separated from her husband when she'd met this handsome American soldier and found she was expecting my mum.

My Grandmother

My mum was born the year the second world war ended and adopted when she was a few weeks old. Her adoptive mum wasn't a very nice person ( I won't go into details) and as all her own children were much older than my mum, she didn't have a very nice childhood. She often wondered what it would be like if her real mum or dad came and rescued her. Funnily enough her real mum didn't live too far away from her as her adoptive mother's daughter was friends with her real mum and that was how the adoption came about. She never had the courage to talk to her real mother as her adoptive mother was very controlling and never would have allowed it also in those days her own mother may not have been allowed to contact her so no contact was ever made.

Fast forward to October 2010 and I started having this feeling that I really needed to find out about my grandmother. I really felt sad that my mother never really knew her own story and I knew it was because of her distressing upbringing that she would never have the courage to find out as the fear of rejection would have just been too much for her.

I knew my grandmother was half Norwegian and her maiden name is not a common one. I also knew the area where she used to live so I decided, with my mother's permission to search for her. I could have only hoped that she would still be alive and I prayed for something good to happen. It didn't take long.

It took me a while to find the words but I wrote a letter to the address that I had found and couldn't believe it when I got a phone call the very next morning after posting the letter. The lady on the other end of the phone had a lovely accent that I've always missed hearing as I don't live in the area that I was born anymore. She blurted out " she is your grandmother" I was shaking and couldn't think of anything to say except - Wow!

It turns out my grandmother had been forced to give my mother up and had been pining for her ever since. The lady who had called me on the phone turned out to be my grandmother's adopted daughter whom she had cared for since she was a baby but about 20 years after my mum was born. We had many long chats and the sad news was that my grandmother was now suffering from dementia and was now quite unwell although she was able to remember some details about my mum's father which she never ever thought she would find out and she knew who my mum was and seemed to be happy that her long lost daughter had found her. Her adopted daughter told us how my grandmother often used to burst into tears saying how she still missed my mother even though it was such a long time ago.

I now know that I not only have Norwegian and American heritage on my mother's side but Czech from my maternal grandfather too!

My mum and I decided that there was no time to lose and we made plans to visit her mother as soon as we could in October this year. We both live in different parts of the UK so we met up when we got there. Luckily my mum has childhood friends still there so it was a nice trip down memory lane for her too.

My mum and I both used to play here when we were children

We were only able to make two visits to see her mum, my grandmother and on the second visit she was sleeping when we arrived. We were about to leave after chatting a while with her daughter as we didn't want to disturb her but she suddenly woke up and wanted to know who was in the room ( her eyesight wasn't that great). Now she hadn't really been 'with us' on the first visit as with dementia she had good days and bad days but that day she knew it was her lost daughter in front of her and I only wish I could describe the look of utter joy that came across her face. She had the widest smile ever and she just put her hands round my mum's face to look at her and said "Your my baby!" She then gave her a huge hug. That's no mean feat for a very frail 88 year old lady!

Of course we all cried and it was a lovely moment that I will never forget. I'd often watched long lost relatives re-united on some tv programmes and wished I could have done the same for my mum. Well I'd done my best and while it could never make up for many lost years at least my mum knew she'd always been wanted and could now lay many ghosts to rest.

Before we traveled to visit my grandmother, I knew I wanted to take something for and I thought - what better for a grandmother than a granny stripe! I had to work fast as I had to travel in just over a week when I started it but I was very motivated! I finished it just before our second visit and left it with her daughter to give to her later on that day. It turned out that she absolutely loved it and took it with her wherever she was. Of course that made me feel very happy.
Sadly she died on Friday.

I was so lucky to get to meet her and even though she wasn't well she was bright, happy, cheeky and very funny. Her daughter told me she had been like that her whole life and had been a wonderful mother to her. I'm glad that the only things I'd been able to give her meant so much to her. Being able to know that her daughter had thought about her all these years and always wanted to know her and her crochet blanket to give her a little bit comfort and to know that we were thinking of her.
I thought we'd escape most of the snowy chaos but Mother Nature had other ideas. I'm a bit worried as my mum is supposed to be visiting in time for Christmas and she is coming by rail. I thought it would be a good idea for her to come down here as she lives in Lincolnshire and their weather is usually worse but forecasts say otherwise this time - fingers crossed.
We had quite a heavy snow shower this yesterday morning and I caught Mr Fox playing in my garden. At least someone is enjoying this weather.
As for myself, I have been busy making some crochet Christmas pressies for family and friends but more about that in a few days.Rachael @ CleverCheshireCatshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03991077439627595666noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1092841712189851602.post-71145784063165565772010-12-07T18:33:00.003+00:002010-12-16T22:59:59.426+00:00Plump Pincushions
When I saw Lucy of Attic24's wonderful Christmas Decorations, I realised I had made something similar during the summer this year. Mine aren't decorations but Pin Cushions!

It really was time that I made another post as I have had so many things to talk about and share but the problem is that I only had a really crappy camera or a phone camera. Seeing so many people's amazing photographs on flickr and on my favourite blogs really didn't make me want to post any of mine so I just didn't take any.

Every time I thought - Oooh! that's interesting I'm sure that would make good blogfodder - I then remembered I'd have to take pictures and well that would let the whole post down. Weeks and months went by and I'm sure those of you that look at my blog thought I'd abandoned it. Roll on to December and YaY! I have a new camera :)

Of course this doesn't mean that my technique of taking pictures will be any good but I'm going to try my best so just bear with me while I learn. Sooo back to crochet and the pin cushions. Made with Rico Cotton (mostly) I had so much fun making them. Some are going to be Christmas presents, in particular one is going to my mum's friend who has been a great help to my mum and I'm so grateful. I know she'll like it as she already admires the one I made for my mum back in June. One was already a birthday present for a friend of mine who loved it! Some may go for sale if I think they'd sell as they really are a lot fun to make and so quick as well.

Without further a do, here are the said Pincushions.

Instead I've been really naughty and started another one. *cringe*

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">It's not as bad as you think ( yes I am trying to convince myself ) because this latest cushion is SPECIAL ;) Why is it so special you ask? Several reasons really. It marks my return to cotton yarns for one and most importantly, it's for me! It's not finished yet - as is usually the case but here is another preview.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">

<center style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">I have really enjoyed working with the cotton yarns and definitely prefer them to acrylic although I will still be using good acrylic yarns for various projects.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">Today is also very important as I have been very very brave and persuaded my daughter to set up her sewing machine. I have a terrible fear of sewing and the sewing machine itself. Any hand sewing or darning that I have been forced to do mostly consists of - sew one stitch, stab self, sew one stitch, stab self again :(

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">The problem is that there are sooo many lovely things out there to make involving sewing so I really must be brave. The only thing holding me back from completing my seven, now eight cushions is sewing linings for them.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
Anyway I've taken the plunge and will photograph the results today. Here's hoping we have completed cushions and maybe, just maybe a few other fun bits too.

Oooh! I forgot to mention the parcels bit. It was my birthday the other day and my wonderful brother Greg ordered two big cones of cotton for me. One is purple and the other turquoise. I feel another cushion idea coming on

You can also see that I tried to hide my daughter's sewing machine with my crochet, don't think it will help though.
I have been quite busy on the crochet front trying to get a few cushions together. The problem that I have been having is that I make one side of a cushion then just when I think I have a nice matching back to the cushion, I decide that it's either too nice to be just a back or that it doesn't quite go.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">This means that instead of one complete cushion, I actually have two new fronts both waiting for backs! I have done this quite a few times (quite frustrating) but now I am down to one lovely flowery front and I am being really careful to make sure that I make the appropriate back so I don't start all that nonsense over again :)
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">On the bright side, I will soon have 7 different cushions to show! It's quite funny really.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Here is a sneak preview of what is to come next week.

So here is my flowery scarf. I finished it a few weeks ago and am quite proud of it. I know it's very girly but that's the way I felt when I crocheted it :)
